“Intertwined Worlds” – The HLRS Fellowship Program for the Study of Interfaith Encounters

Each year, the HLRS issues a call for applications for the “Intertwined Worlds” fellowship program. This initiative is designed for doctoral and postdoctoral researchers from diverse disciplinary backgrounds whose studies focus on interfaith encounters. The program fosters interdisciplinary dialogue within the academic community through a series of annual meetings, study tours, interactions with religious leaders, and a concluding international conference.

Program Objectives

  • Building a Research Community:
The primary goal of the program is to create a dynamic and supportive network for early-career researchers from various disciplines who focus on interfaith encounters. The program emphasizes interdisciplinary dialogue, intellectual exchange, and the integration of theoretical frameworks with real-world case studies.
  • Advancing Religious Studies in Israel:
The program is committed to promoting the academic study of religions in Israel by establishing a dedicated research framework for scholars in the field.
  • Encouraging Interdisciplinary Research:
The program seeks to advance interdisciplinary approaches in religious studies by:
  1. Connecting doctoral researchers from a range of academic fields, including sociology, anthropology, theology, history, and philosophy.
  2. Integrating diverse methodologies, perspectives, and theoretical frameworks into participants’ research.
  • Fostering Connections with Religious Communities:
A distinctive feature of the program is the practical experience it offers fellows. Establishing connections with religious communities and leaders is essential for the field of religious studies. By facilitating meaningful interactions and dialogue between fellows and religious figures, the program seeks to bridge the gap between academia and the lived experiences of religious communities. This engagement enriches the fellows’ research while fostering mutual understanding and collaboration between academia and religious communities in Israel.
